Fraoch (Black tea with Heather)

£4.95

Heather tea is as 'old as the hills' in Scotland.  Before Tea was imported from China, the natives made use of the plants that grew around them for beverages. Heather was used in many ways by the Highlanders, as flooring, bedding and also for drinking.  It was believed to have health-bestowing properties and so was drunk on a daily basis.  It was known to have a calming sedative effect, and so was seen to be a good herb for sleep.  Even when mattresses were introduced, the Highlanders still kept pillows of heather blossom, as it was known to help ensure a peaceful night's sleep.  When black tea made it's way to the Highlands, at first many were sceptical- not sure about giving up the usual practices- it became commonplace to add heather to black tea.  If you're going to have a hot beverage, you might as well make it a healthy one, and so the noble fraoch traditional blend was created. Fraoch (heather blossom) and Black tea became a classic traditional drink in the Highlands, and the delicate combination of fragrant heather and Organic Assam black tea-leaves is really something special.

This is our one and only caffeinated tea blend, and we think it is rather splendid!
